Origin of the Egyptian Society of Community Medicine

In late February 1983 a population conference was held in Hurghada included representatives, managers of the ministry of health, representatives of all the faculties of medicine in Egypt.

The aim of the meeting was how to benefit from the training capabilities of the ministry of health in support for the delivery of health services for the community with the collaboration of the faculties of medicine. During this meeting a continuous collaboration between the ministry of health and the faculties of medicine members was needed to last after this conference.

All the attendants agreed on initiation of a society which was called the Egyptian Society of community medicine ESCM. After that the legal registration of that society was granted.
The imitation of the society was in January 1984 and Cairo was the base for this society. Since that date the society was in full function in providing and caring for the improvement of community medicine in Egypt.

The Objectives of the Egyptian Society of Community Medicine
1- Improvement of teaching community medicine in the faculties of medicine in Egypt.
2-Enhance community participation to improve the quality of life and acquiring healthy life styles.
3-Yearly organization of a scientific conference and scientific seminars
4-Publication of a scientific journal in community medicine
5-Participation in training of health care workers in the ministry of health and faculties of medicine.
